If you are new to Crunchy Domestic Goddess and are visiting after reading Crunchy and loving it: Longmont woman finds her natural niche in the blogosphere in the Longmont Ledger this weekend, welcome! I’m glad to have you join me. (And if you are a regular reader and want to see what the Ledger had to say about me, check it out.)
In case you are interested in learning a bit more about me, here’s an intro of sorts. ;) I’ve lived in Colorado since 2000 after growing up in Michigan and spending a year in Oklahoma. I remember being so happy that the winters here were much more mild than in the ‘burbs of Detroit, but that seems to have changed over the past couple of years. *shiver* The temperatures as of late make it difficult to keep the thermostat at my usual 66 degrees during the day. I’ve had to bump it up to 67 or even 68 now and then. What I wouldn’t give for a fireplace right about now. ;)
After having my daughter in the hospital, two and a half years later I gave birth to my son at home and have raised both of my kids loosely following attachment parenting principles (or what I like to call parenting by instinct) because it’s felt right to my husband and me.
Over the past year, I’ve been dealing with generalized anxiety disorder and while at first I refused to take medication for it, I’ve since decided that meds, coupled with therapy and other techniques, were the best way for me to go. I’ve written a fair bit about my experiences on my blog.
I’d say my mom is the one who first started me down the crunchy path when I was a kid, as she gardened, breast-fed, canned, and picked up trash wherever she went. I now enjoy having my own garden, buying local and organic foods when possible, using reusable products (cloth napkins, bags, etc.) instead of disposable, composting our food scraps, cloth diapering my kids (I was better at it with my oldest than I am with my youngest), cooking from scratch, food preservation, and someday I hope to have my own chickens and maybe a couple goats (we hope to move to a slightly more rural setting in the next year).
I try not to be preachy on my blog (and am definitely not that way in person. I’m quite reserved.). I think everyone is entitled to make their own choices. I do encourage people to do their research though and one of my favorite sayings is “Knowledge is power.” That’s not to say I don’t get upset when I see trash littering my path at the park, overflowing trash cans with materials that can (and should) be recycled, or mindless consumerism, but I try to focus on leading by example.
Oh, one more little thing. I’m just a little obsessed with the Twilight series. I refused to read it for a long time, but after being encouraged by a handful of friends, have recently got sucked in (pun intended). I’m finishing up New Moon tonight or tomorrow. :) Go Team Edward! ;)
That’s more than enough dirt on me for now. If you want to learn more, I encourage you to check out some of the posts linked above or one of two of my favorites which I’ve linked below.
